Mehul “Mike” Patel was known as selfless, loving, and always there for others. He died living out that very trait, stopping to help a stranger in need on October 10 on Highway 90. Multiple vehicles crashed, and one flipped onto its roof. Mike and another driver pulled over to help, but Mike was then hit by a passing vehicle driven by Victor Carnes, who left the scene. Carnes is now charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
Mike was taken to the hospital and died from his injuries. Alpesh Patel, who knew Mike for over 20 years and was part of a close friend group with him, said he was with Mike and his family just hours before the crash. He didn’t know it would be the last time he’d see someone he considered a brother. He said Mike was a wonderful husband, father, son, and friend, and although Mike is no longer here, he wants to make sure his legacy lives on.
Mike was an only child and was laid to rest more than a week ago. He was very close with law enforcement. Mike’s family says they’re praying for those who were involved in the crash.
