The Milwaukee Brewers hold a three-game lead in the World Series after defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 on Monday night at Tropicana Field. The decisive margin came during the fifth inning, when the visitors scored a World Series record eight runs with two outs.

The rally began against former Brewer Freddy Peralta, who left the game with the bases loaded and two strikes. Left-handed reliever Cam Booser entered to face the next batter. Brice Turang grounded the ball sharply, and it slipped past Rays shortstop Taylor Walls for a two-run single. That hit triggered a sequence of seven consecutive hits, a new postseason record, and no home runs were part of the inning.

The Brewers have now won their first three games of the series. They have outscored the Rays 18-7 during the Fall Classic. The team recorded 103 wins in the regular season and entered the playoffs with a 10-1 record. They are now one victory away from their first championship in franchise history.

Rookie left-hander Robert Gasser pitched six scoreless innings for Milwaukee. He allowed only one hit and faced the minimum number of batters. This marks the first time a left-handed pitcher has faced the minimum over at least six innings in a World Series game since Sandy Koufax in 1965. Gasser’s postseason ERA stands at 0.60 over 15 innings.

Brandon Woodruff, 33, returned to the mound for the ninth inning. He had not played since a shoulder injury sustained on July 4. Woodruff recorded the final three outs. He is the longest-tenured player on the Brewers roster and made his playoff debut since 2021.

Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday night. If Milwaukee wins, they will join the 1976 Cincinnati Reds as the only teams to sweep both the League Championship Series and the World Series. No team has accomplished this feat since the LCS adopted a best-of-seven format in 1985.

Rays third baseman Junior Caminero noted through an interpreter that the Brewers are playing better. The Rays are seeking their first home World Series win since 2008. The Brewers have outscored the Rays in every game of the series so far.
