The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-21 on Monday night to stop a two-game losing streak. The victory kept Dallas in the NFC East race, where the New York Giants hold a 4-2-1 record. The Cowboys had fallen to 2-4 before this contest, facing pressure from a defense that had raised concerns all season and an offense that scored only 29 points in its previous two games.
Quarterback Dak Prescott threw three touchdown passes in the win. He connected with CeeDee Lamb twice and George Pickens once. This marked the sixth time in his career that Prescott has thrown at least three scores against Philadelphia. The offense also found success on the ground, with Javonte Williams rushing for a career-high 155 yards on 25 carries. Williams scored the final touchdown of the game from two yards out with 2:21 remaining.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer faced external scrutiny during the week. He described himself as an elite playcaller on a local radio station while managing a 9-13-1 record in the previous season. Despite the pressure, Schottenheimer remained reserved in his postgame comments. He stated that the team simply played well and that he was excited for the players. Prescott noted that he saw a hungry version of his coach during the game, adding that the team has his back.
The defensive unit limited the Eagles despite allowing touchdowns on their first offensive possession in the first half and the second half. Cornerback DeMarvion Overshown intercepted one pass from Tanner McKee. Defensive linemen Quinnen Williams and Donovan Ezeiruaku sacked McKee twice. The Cowboys recorded more than 200 yards rushing and 200 yards passing against Philadelphia for the first time since 1983.
The win came 22 days after the Cowboys last beat the Houston Texans on Oct. 4. Dallas has not won back-to-back games since a three-game winning streak in Weeks 11-13 last year. The team next faces the 2-5 Arizona Cardinals at AT&T Stadium. According to ESPN Analytics, the Cowboys now have a 57% chance of winning the NFC East division.
